Maison Lissner is located in the Alsatian territory; Alsace is located in the north-eastern part of France, on the border with Germany, and is known, in particular, for the production of excellent white wines, such as Gewürztraminer and Riesling, and the much appreciated Crémant d'Alsace, obtained by a second fermentation in the bottle, followed by a 9 month stop sur lattes.
The region, thanks to the altitude the vineyards usually enjoy and to the peculiar autumn humidity which favors the development of Botrytis Cinerea, also produces the excellent Sélection de Grains Nobles, sweet, complex, concentrated and aromatic wines, obtained by rigorous selections of grapes. In Alsace, then, 60% of the vineyards are now conducted according to the dictates of organic farming and Maison Lissner is no different.
Bruno Schloegel, owner of the winery, is also part of that group of winemakers who produce wines without the addition of sulfur dioxide.
Often sulfur dioxide is used after filtration, but Bruno, convinced that the best of a fruit, including antioxidants, is in the skin, does not filter his wines and, consequently, does not use sulfur dioxide: as he himself reassures, wines without sulfur dioxide, unfiltered, are in any case stable over time.
